Uniquely situated bastide (fortified town). Since time immemorial a village where artists work and show their creations in studios. In the summer months of July and August there is live music every Thursday evening.

Visit the castle and combine it with the market on Fridays.
In the small streets of Foix you can soak up the atmosphere of an old county. The typical half-timbered houses are still standing along streets with small squares covered with plane trees. A few small squares covered with plane trees and cozy cafes lead the way to the castle. From the large tower of the castle you have a great view over the region.

Located on top of an impressive cliff, the fortress of Roquefixade, since the eleventh century, overlooks that of Montségur.
More than 100 meters long, this fortress is divided into two fences. At the bottom, a courtyard surrounded by curtain walls that follow the ridge line. At the top, the castle itself, accessible via a door tower, a kind of airlock closed by two chicane doors.
After the destruction ordered by Louis XIII in 1632, only a wall of this fort remains of this fort, pierced by two censored windows and a tower.
In the thirteenth century, a community of Cathar believers lived in the village and fought for the freedom of their religion, family and country.
Free and open admission, all year round.
Aulus-les-Bains:
A one-hour drive from Daumazan, direction Guzet, to Aulus. At the roundabout turn right across the river towards Col de Latrape. The car is parked in the first hairpin bend. On a large sign the walk to the Cascade d'Ars is indicated. An impressive cascading waterfall. This beautiful "family walk" takes about an hour and a half. One can make a round via Lac de Guzet, following the GR10, back to Aulus. This last part is a bit heavier, but with beautiful views. Duration of the total tour with many breaks is about six and a half hours.
Luchon:
An hour and a half drive from Daumazan, first towards Tarbes and later at Montréjeau directly south, destination Luchon, a very cozy place. From this city you can make many beautiful walks. The most favorite starting point for a walk is Hospice de France, which can be reached from Luchon by car in twenty minutes. A very suitable "family walk" from Hospice is the one to the Cirque de la Glère, a trip of one and a half hours walk. An easy walk because of the low altitude difference of 100 meters. In the right season you can enjoy wild hyacinths, monk's hood, many herbs and marsh plants. Here too you can walk a round, a total of three hours of walking plus 7 km. over the road to get back to the car. Two cars offer a solution to this problem, one at the starting point and one where the circular walk eventually ends up on the road again..
